Former Real Madrid and Manchester United star, Raphael Varane has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.
Raphael Varane made this announcement via his Instagram page earlier today, September 25, expressing his excitement about starting a new chapter off the pitch.
In a heartfelt statement, the four-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid reflected on his career, acknowledging the challenges he has overcome and the incredible experiences he has had.
Varane emphasized his never-say-die attitude but stated that it was the right time for him to retire from active football even though he has over eight months left on his contract with the newly promoted Italian Serie A side, Como.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career and emphasized that he has no regrets.
Looking ahead, the Frenchman shared that he will be involved with Como in a different capacity and is eager to share more about this soon.
“A new life begins off the pitch,” Raphael Varane said.
“I will remain with Como. Just without using my boots and shin pads.
“Something I am looking forward to sharing more about soon.”
Note that Varane’s decision to retire comes as a result of a knee injury he sustained during a match, leading to the termination of his one-year deal with Como. This marks the end of his tenure with the Italian side three months after his contract with Manchester United expired in June 2024.
